club visuals art installations live performances
Onyx is a visual performance tool that allows one to mix video live - whether it be for club visuals, live performances, or art installations. This is a very stripped down alpha build meant for the web, so there are limited capabilities … it’s just up here so you can play with it.
features:
- ability mix 6 layers of video
- ability to extend the core filters and effects using Adobe’s Actionscript 3.0
- ability to compile mixed clips into
- ability to receive video sources from external input, such as webcams or even through the internet using an rtmp source
alpha notes:
- right now only flv’s are accepted. Older versions had accepted swf’s, but Flash Player 9 does not currently support AS 1.0 or 2.0 swfs.
- some of the filters and effects do not have all their controls added, these will be added in the next release.
- in the online version, you may have issues loading more then 2 videos at a time (or at least until the file have been fully downloaded)
Use the demo here (requires flash player 9)

Well I don’t know if Peter Jackson is executive producing this one or not but I’m pretty sure he’s at least had a hand in the production of Ubisoft’s “King Kong”, the video game based on his upcoming movie. A playable demo for the game has been released as of today, featuring 2 separate levels. In one you play as a lowly human trying to escape a dino attack; in the other the tables are turned as you get to control Kong himself and kick some dinosaur ass. The KongIsKing website has also unveiled a preview of the

Hey guys — I’m still in the midst of a redesign — The features I was wanting to add were really cluttering up the interface. I’ll be posting new designs soon.
If anyone would like to collaborate let me know — snap-to-beat, audio in/out, and visual remoting are the biggest features on my list — but I want to know how you guys want to use onyx — or how you currently use VJ software …

Hi Jac –
Onyx will be able to take multiple camera feeds no problem — actually, with the demo online, you should be able to do it (they should show up in the file browser)
I hope to have a new version up by next weekend — with a downloadable version available hopefully within a month after that time — a lot of it is dependant on the Apollo Beta Release.
The sooner that ships, the sooner Onyx will ship.

Dan - looks like a lot of hours have
been put in this.
Controlling via midi devices would be nice.
And maybe try to get rid of the
mouse & keyboard if possible.
Well done.
